You will find the shop, opened in January of 2007, at the corner of
18th and Grand on the west side of downstown Des Moines....a
space with about 1200 square feet of selling space for vintage and
a loft dedicated to glamorous vintage lingerie & vintage bridal

You are currently visiting my website, created in August of 2006.
The site offers the best my real-world shop has to offer.....dresses,
accessories and separates from the 1800's to the 1980's. I offer
divine lingerie, stunning shoes and vintage jewelery. The site is
set up to take Paypal but by contacting me through the shop
(linked above), I can take credit card via phone. Email if you
would like to set up layaway or send a money order.

We sell at etsy.com as SCARLETBIRDVINTAGE. Owning a
vintage shop allows me access to some fabulous late 60s to 80s
pieces that aren't always a great fit for the website, so I've housed
them at etsy. Trendier pieces and vintage odds and ends will wind
up on etsy, from Victorian lace lots to 70s rocker chic! Click here

We offer GIFT CERTIFICATES in any amount....just email us at
admin@dorotheasclosetvintage.com to arrange one sent via
email/snail mail!

LAYAWAY POLICY
Happy to work with you on terms, but the basics go like
this.....20% down, $2000 maximum, 90 days to pay and we're set.
If 90 days passes and my attempts to collect the balance are not
responded to & or met, the items become available again for
other shoppers and the deposit is kept as a fee for having the
pieces unavailable for customers for the duration of the 90 days.
Layaway items are not eligible for return due to the extended
perioid that they are unavailable to the public.
I'm pretty easy going as long as you stay in touch!

RETURNS

Returns are possible and are approved on a case by case basis.
Contact must be made within 3 days of receipt. If there is no error
or misrepresentation on my part, I require a 20% restock fee with
the exception of bridal gowns which, due to their one-wear/event
nature, require a 40% restock fee. Returns for color are not
accepted...color may appear different from one monitor to another
and I cannot be responsible for how color is perceieved. If the
error is mine a refund will be issued in full. Layaway items are not
eligible for return due to the extended period they are unavailable
to the public.

Contact must be made prior to shipping ANY returned item, no
matter the reason. Items must be shipped within 3 days of receipt
to be eligible for refund. Dorothea's Closet Vintage reserves the
right to select shipping method in all cases. Failure to ship with
method required will null any shipping reimbursement in cases of
return cause by an error on this end.

We will be happy to work with you on buying vintage apparel and
accessories! The process will be tailored to your needs....ideally
we will have you give us a list of items after email discussion. We
will have you ship the items w/ a packing list for our approval and
make an offer! Any items not accepted or agreed upon will be
shipped back at our cost. When necessary we will work based on
photographs but handling items before buying is preferred.

Dorothea's Closet was born of a love for pretty things, inspired by
days of dressing up in Grandma's closet. That grandma was Dorothea,
and I am proud to say she had a large influence in who I am today....and
in what I do as well. Because she was the inspiration for this passion of
mine, it is her artwork & a snapshot of her from a photo booth that are
recurring imagery on my site. Its my way of thanking her for showing me
a strong woman could love & wear pretty things and still be a Mom, a
Grandma, an artist, a gardener, a fabulous cook & an inspiration to those
around her.

At Dorothea's Closet, you will find vintage clothing.....the best I can
find. From as far back as I can get it to the early 80's. I focus mainly on
dresses but offer separates, accessories, lingerie & men's things
whenever possible. While there is some mens vintage, the focus is on
womens for a myriad of reasons so selection is small. From the highly
collectible to every day wear & everything in between....I love the things
I sell & hope you will too!

I am a single Mom working from a small shop front or from home, not an
impersonal large company....email me any time to ask for more pictures,
details I have missed, even to look for things you are hunting for (I may
even have it not yet posted!). I appreciate my customer's love of vintage
& want nothing more than a happy experience all around!
